It’s the Holiday Season! Strategy #9

Oh boy here it comes ~ the holidays! It is 2 days until Thanksgiving and 31 days until Christmas! It can be a time of hustle, hurry, and unfortunately stress and worry. So between now and then we’re going to be talking about, and share ways to have a happy enjoyable holiday season from now through Thanksgiving and until Christmas. Each day I will share a tip, secret, or simple strategy on how to keep yourself balanced and centered through the holiday season. It will take about 5 minutes a day.

Hello and Welcome back! We are on strategy day nine! Let’s recap our strategies and see how you are doing. Here is what we have so far:

  • Visualize your holiday and what your desired outcome is.
  • Manage the amount of time it will take to create your desired outcome.
  • Stay out of judgement on yourself. Do what you can.
  • Get some rest.
  • Eat good food.
  • Feed your mind positive thoughts.
  • Plan simple activities.
  • Self Management Techniques

And now step 9~ get some exercise.  “When you exercise, your body produces endorphins, which are the ‘happy’ chemicals in your brain,” says Dr. Abramowitz. “You’ll come back inside with a different mindset.”¹

Yes! Get some exercise. I always find that good brisk walk in the winter can change my mindset and help me to refocus on something else besides the TV, dishes, or internet. I have bundled up myself and my daughter with 3 feet of snow on the ground and shoveled snow. It was amazing how quiet it was outside, how crisp the air felt, and how spectacular making snow angels felt.

You can’t get outside? Okay. Then crank it up and dance in place, move your arms around, or sing a song that will move your heart. Take a no excuses approach and move your physical body. See how it feels! And NO! Holiday shopping does not count as exercise! LOL! But good try!

So step 9 is Get some exercise. The kind that is most perfect for you and that you know in wisdom that you can handle.

Action Step for today: Remember in years past where you felt stressed, anxious, or uncomfortable at a certain point during the holiday festivities or preparations ~ plan ahead to get some exercise at those moments to keep yourself centered and focused. Who knows maybe you will get up and leave the family table to go outside, and the family may follow you with a football, basketball, or Frisbee. You may start something that could be the next family tradition and memory maker! Go for it!
